Ralph Dougherty

Ralph Dougherty beating the hour in 1939

Originally with Rugby RCC, Ralph was a member of Leamington C&AC in the late thirties and forties. A real specialist in the 25 mile time trial Ralph made competition history by becoming the first rider to beat the hour on English roads when he won the Solihull CC 25 mile time trial in 59:29 in June 1939. He was also a successful tandem competitor, breaking many competition records while piloting Fred Dale.
