Fred Dale


Fred Dale, Denis Broughton and Harry Rogers
fast men of the thirties - after the Warwickshire Road Club '50'

Born 1912 and is a founder member of the Leamington C&AC. His early career was as a promising runner, winning the Chandler cup in 1929 and 1931. He took up cycling in the early thirties and was still winning races into his seventies. Fred passed away on 3rd of January 2006. Read his obituary here.

  • Took 12th place in the National BAR competition over 50 miles / 100 miles and 12 hours in 1937, 1938 and 1939. Average speed in 1937 was 21.62mph
  • Won the Polytechnic 100 in 1938 with a winning time of 4 hours 43 minutes
  • Won the National Vets 100 championship 3 times, the last time at age 70 - best plus was 87:13
  • Rode his fastest ever 50 at the age of 69 when he finished in 2 hours 7 minutes
  • Has held LC&AC vets records at all distances over 50 miles for over 20 years
  • Visited the Tour de France 7 times in the Hinault era and actually saw Sean Yates win the time trial. Also travelled to Flanders to watch the Paris-Roubaix in Sean Kelly era
